Christmas treats that won't miss a beat!

So Christmas is about 1 1/2 weeks away, and you have decided to throw a Christmas/Holiday party of some sort. Whether it's an "Ugly Sweater Party" or a "Secret Santa" gift giving party, one thing is for sure, people are expecting to see holiday themed food, drinks and desserts. I would have to say, naturally having a sweet tooth, desserts are my thing, and holiday parties are no exception. If anything it's a perfect excuse to have a "cheat" day/month, right? Although the thought of making holiday desserts can be tiring, there are actually a lot of easy recipes out there, that aren't too time consuming. Below I have listed a few of these desserts that your guests are sure to enjoy. Don't stress out and forget it's a party, the main purpose is to HAVE FUN!!! "You Got This!"

CANDY CANE FOREST CAKE

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe Chocolate Chip Cake

  • 1 recipe White Vanilla Frosting

  • Candy: crushed red starlight mints; candy canes of assorted sizes and shapes

Directions

  1. Make Chocolate Chip Cake according to recipe. Trim domed tops of two of the layers. Place one trimmed layer on a cake stand or serving platter and top with 2/3 cup White Vanilla Frosting. Repeat two more times, using domed layer on top. Frost top and sides with remaining frosting.

  2. Decorate along the edge and a little down the sides with crushed starlight mints. Insert candy canes into the top of the cake.

TRIPLE LAYER HOLIDAY BROOKIES

Ingredients

  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix

  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

  • 2 teaspoons Betty Crocker™ red gel food color

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 24 Golden Oreo sandwich cookies

  • 1 box (18.3 oz) Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix

  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on box for cakelike brownies

  • 1 cup red and green M&M's milk chocolate candies

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 325°F. Spray bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray.

  2. In large bowl, mix cookie mix, baking cocoa, softened butter, food color, 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water with spoon until soft dough forms. Press in bottom of pan. Bake 15 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. Place cookies in single layer 6 rows by 4 rows on baked cookie base.

  3. In another large bowl, make brownie batter as directed on box for cakelike brownies. Pour brownie batter over cookies; spread to cover. Sprinkle top with candies.

  4. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 2 1/2 hours before cutting. Cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Store in airtight container at room temperature.

REINDEER BAIT

Ingredients

  • 3 c. corn chex

  • 2 c. wheat chex

  • 2 c. mini pretzels

  • 2 c. mini marshmallows

  • 1 c. red and green M&Ms

  • 20 oz. white chocolate

  • Red and green sprinkles, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, pretzels, mini marshmallows, and M&Ms.

  2. Melt white chocolate and pour over mixture. Stir until fully coated.

  3. Transfer mixture to a parchment-lined baking sheet or dish and top with sprinkles, then refrigerate until firm, 1 hour.

  4. Break up into bite-size pieces and serve.
